Advanced File Manager Overview

Course Length: Approximately 40 hours.
Prerequisites: Introduction to File Manager and Intermediate File Manager or equivalent experience.

Advanced File Manager is designed for the database developer and covers four distinct topics:

This course has been designed for both programmers and non-programmers. Non-programmers are taught how to use File Manager as a general database development tool. The programmer learns all these concepts as well as those aspects of File Manager that permit customization: triggers, input transforms, etc.

Development of a database using File Manager is taught within the framework of accepted system design phases. File Manager is used to implement a small patient information system as the student progresses through each phase of analysis and design. Once the patient database has been developed, the student is taught how to specialize the implementation by entering M code. Students without programming skills may skip these concepts.

Finally, after the database has been modified, the student is taught how to call File Manager routines from an application program. Integrated into the course are numerous hints as to how to effectively use File Manager. These hints are based on years of experience.
