Course Length: 4 days
Prerequisites: VMS, NT or Unix/Linux System Management training or the
equivalent
Method of Instruction: Public or on-site lecture/workshop instruction
Caché System Management is designed for the student who has system management training or the equivalent experience with VMS, NT or UNIX/Linux.
Initially, the course starts with an overview of a Caché Configuration and then proceeds to a detailed analysis of the component parts.
Each student will have an opportunity to install Caché on OpenVMS, NT 4.0, and Linux operating systems, and to configure Caché on one or more of these systems.
Configuration includes setting up manager, programmer and user accounts, and providing appropriate security controls to the accounts.
Students will manage routines (program code) and create databases. Part of this will require an introduction to the Caché programming language, but this is not a programming course. Those with experience with the M language will find Caché very similar.
Managing databases involves learning how to extend them as required by system needs, protecting database integrity with journaling and backups and system utilities integral to caché.
This system management course will also include performance monitoring.
Upon successful conclusion of the course, the student should be able to:
