Prerequisites: The user must be generally able to navigate through a GUI application by clicking buttons and selecting menu items.

Assigning Tasks Effectively is one of the courses included in the Supervision Series. It focuses on interpersonal skills emphasizing communication and improvement of management skills by using behavior modeling. This course addresses an audience of team leaders, supervisors, and first-line managers.

It is recommended for maximum benefit, that learners first experience the two foundation modules, Fundamental Skills of Managing and Fundamental Skills of Communicating prior to taking this course.

Assigning Tasks Effectively takes you step-by-step through the effective procedures for assigning tasks. It shows you how to form clear explanations, gain agreement, and confirm future plans and commitments with team members.

Upon successful conclusion of the course, the student should be able to:

• Understand the importance of creating an atmosphere in which assignments can be phrased as requests rather than commands.
• Provide clearly stated assignments that take the individual team member's need for information about the task into account.
• Encourage team members to participate by asking for their opinions and incorporating their suggestions whenever possible.
• Overcome barriers to understanding by summarizing the mutually agreed upon set of instructions for accomplishing the task.
• Use team member feedback to insure that your tasks have been clearly understood and retained.
• Further insure the successful completion of the task at hand, by building effective controls into the process.
